Bonnie brewing?

Second named storm of the year could be taking shape in tropics.

The hurricane season doesn't begin officially until June 1 but it's possible that the Atlantic Basin will have two named storms by then.

A cluster of clouds and showers just northeast of the Bahamas has a good shot at meeting the requirements for becoming a named tropical storm -- one with winds of at least 39 mph – by week's end.

The National Hurricane Center says the chances are 50-50 that the mass grows into Bonnie, the second name on the 2016 Atlantic hurricane list.

Alex was No. 1, and although it essentially was a fish storm, prowling the open ocean, Alex did gain fame in January as a rare winter hurricane.

On average, the Atlantic Basin, which consists of the North Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico, the first named storms doesn't appear until jly.

But named storms in May have happened, with the Caribbean the most-favored region.
