August: End of dry run?

For a change, rain is running above normal, with a fresh soaking due.

We have miles and inches to go before we challenge the record rains of August 2011.

In fact, the 19.35 inches measured officially at Philadelphia International Airport is a almost 2.5 inches more than has fallen in all of 2012.

Still, for a chance rain is running above normal for the month in Philly, in Delaware County, and in the neighboring Jersey counties.

And if we can believe the forecasts, the monthly totals are about to double.

The afternoon action is over, but the National Weather Service says the showers become more likely during the early-morning hours, and then again tomorrow afternoon and night.

By the time it all ends Saturday, a widespread 1 to 2 inches of new rain is expected.

At least as noteworthy, we see no 90s in the forecast through Thursday.

The official high reached 92 today, for the fifth time this month. You may recall that last month, Philly tied a record by reaching 90 on 21 days.

The extended outlook suggests a return of heat, but in the meantime we'll happily take a week of "normal."
