This is a reader's reaction to my first story in the series.....

I think that you should point out that we all pay when people do not receive adequate health care.  If someone does not get proper care they may become disabled, need SSI, or SS Disability thus costing all of us tax dollars.  This is compounded by the fact that they are no longer tax payers.  This is one hidden cost of lack of heatlh care for so many people.  All one needs to do is check the statistics for SS Disabilty and SSI to see that poor areas (chiefly rural & inner city), those were many do not have health insurance are where the concentration of recipients is. People not having adequate health insurance is greatly damaging us all and not just those without insurance.  This needs to be stressed in your articles, since many in our society can not put themselves in the shoes of others and don't care about others until it happpens to them.  The first person you profiled is an example of this.  He did nto care about the healt h care issue until he became a victim! I can't see how anyone can be so blind, but he is not an exception, he is in the majority.  The only way to convince these people of the need for health care for all is to point out how not having it hurts them in their pocketbook!!
Another factor is the impact on employers when employees are sick since they can not see a Dr. due to lack of insurance.  This is another hidden cost to all of us.
Nice articles.  Keep up the good work and please consider the above.
