Whoopi Goldberg defends Bill Cosby: ‘He has not been proven a rapist’

Whoopi Goldberg reiterated her support for Bill Cosby on The View today, saying that she refuses to make “snap judgments” in the wake of revelations indicating the comedian purchased Quaaludes to give to women for sex.

Whoopi Goldberg reiterated her support for Bill Cosby on The View today, saying that she refuses to make "snap judgments" in the wake of revelations indicating the comedian purchased Quaaludes to give to women for sex.

"This is my opinion and in America, still — I know it's a shock — but you actually were innocent until proven guilty," Goldberg said this morning. "He has not been proven a rapist."

Goldberg also said that more information needs to be brought to light before any legitimate judgment can be made — an aspect of the case with which co-host Raven-Symone agreed. Symone, who recently joined The View, played Cosby's step-granddaughter on The Cosby Show from 1989 to 1992.

"He gave me my first job," Symone said of Cosby. "But at the same time, you need the proof, and then I'll be able to give my judgment here or there. And now there's real facts."

"We'll see what happens as more information comes out," Goldberg added. "People will make judgments. I don't like snap judgments because I've had snap judgments made on me, so I'm very, very careful. Save your texts, save your nasty comments — I don't care."

When the flood of Cosby accusations began in November last year, Goldberg told The View's audience that she had "a lot of questions" for the comedian's accusers.

"I'm going to reserve my judgment because I have a lot of questions," Goldberg said back in November. "Because I know we all have friends who have gone through this."
