Washington man says he's had sex with 700 cars

Wearing a shirt with his beloved white Volkswagen Beetle on it, Edward Smith from Yelm, Wash. told interviewers Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden he’s had sex with 700 … cars.

Edward Smith gets around. Wearing a shirt with his beloved white Volkswagen Beetle on it, Smith told interviewers Phillip Schofield and Amanda Holden he's had sex with 700 … cars.

There's a term for this type of sexual involvement: Smith is a mechanophile, meaning he's attracted to machines. Though he's somewhat settled down with a lucky punch-buggy, Smith has engaged in mechanophilia with Jaguars, Mustangs and even a helicopter. He lost his "virginity" to his neighbor's Beetle when he was 14.

The story goes on to get really … unique.

Smith, who lives in Yelm, Wash., looked at car magazines rather than the traditional "men's magazines," as a teenager and young adult. One night, he said during the "This Morning" ITV interview, he had an overwhelming urge to go outside.

"It did something for me, woke something up inside me."

From then on, Smith has had various relations with cars. Though he's dated women, he said the relationships were always unfulfilling and he was not able to consummate them. It's not just sex, either. Smith actually believes he's in a relationship with the Beetle he now "courts," named Vanilla. Prior to purchasing Vanilla, Smith was "seeing" another Beetle named Victoria. When he "met" Vanilla, however, Smith says he couldn't keep his eyes off the car.

"'There was something about that white '74 beetle," Smith recalled.

And even though he claims to have a deep love for Vanilla, he's still not 100 percent monogamous, maintaining relations with a 1973 Opal GT named Cinnamon and a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash named Ginger.

Luckily, Vanilla's not a jealous Bug.
