VIDEO: Colbert officiates wedding set to be canceled by government shutdown

Did you know that you can get married at national monuments? Well, you used to be able to, back in the good ol' days when the American government was still a functioning entity. Now, thanks to the government shutdown, there are 24 couples whose big day is on the chopping block because, if the shutdown continues, their weddings will have to be canceled.

*Enter True American Patriot Stephen Colbert*

On Thursday's episode of The Colbert Report, the show's host helped Mike Cassesso and Mailien Le wed in a two-part special dubbed "The 2013 Government Shutdown Wedding of the Century."

In the clips below, Colbert presides over the bachelor and bachelorette parties, the official ceremony (he's an ordained minster of the prestigious, online American Marriage Ministries), and the first dance. He even rips shots with the bride and has MaiLien walk the "aisle" holding one of his Emmys.

Mandy Patinkin from Homeland even stopped by to give a non-denominational Jewish blessing/plug the show's new season.

Colbert maintains that he's pro government shutdown, but promises to provide all of the goods and services that Americans are missing during the furlough period. Apparently that includes weddings.

Happy Friday, everyone.
