VIDEO: Colbert compares himself to Jesus in #CancelColbert response

If you were on vacation or simply avoiding the Internet because you didn't want the season finale of The Walking Dead to be spoiled for you, you might have missed the whole #CancelColbert fiasco that's been playing out for the past couple of days.

If you were on vacation or simply avoiding the Internet because you didn't want the season finale of The Walking Dead to be spoiled for you, you might have missed the whole #CancelColbert fiasco that's been playing out for the past couple of days.

Basically, what had happened was someone running the @ColbertReport Twitter feed for Comedy Central sent a tweet containing a joke from last Wednesday's episode of The Colbert Report without proper context and the Internet took over, from there. People were angry that Colbert would send something so racially insensitive and out-of-context, so #CancelColbert started to gain traction, even though the show's host has nothing to do with the @ColbertReport handle

Still with us?

After the Internet and television media had a handful of field days with #CancelColbert, The Colbert Report returned to the air for its regularly scheduled Monday episode and Colbert did his part to explain the situation and the joke as it was intended.

The dark forces trying to silence my message of core conservative principles mixed with youth-friendly product placement have been thwarted. *Chugs Bud Light Lime* Went through a few of these this weekend. But, folks, I'm not gonna lie: this was close. We almost lost me. I'm never gonna take me for granted ever again. Here's what happened to me: last Wednesday I saluted Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder for his new charity "The Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation," which some have called an obvious attempt to win over Native Americans because it only uses the term "Redskins" once in its name. Now, I have my own racial misunderstanding with the Asian community over a longrunning and beloved character on my show. Very Important: He is a character. He is not me. This is the real Stephen Colbert. I mean everything I say on this show. He means... well, you'd have to ask him and he's not returning my calls right now. Anyway, I was so inspired by Daniel Snyder's charitable outreach that I formed my own charity, "The Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever." That was Wednesday. It re-ran four times on Thursday, was posted to the show's Facebook page. Not a peep out of the Internet. Then, around seven o'clock on on Thursday, my network's promotional Twitter account, @ColbertReport, twitted the name of my foundation without providing a video link to the original segment or mentioning that I was inspired by the Redskins charity. I mean, who would have thought that a means of communication limited to 140 characters would ever create misunderstandings?

Colbert then takes the television media to task, goes "full-on white person" by taking six minutes to explain why he's not a racists, calls out CNN for its Malaysian Air Flight 370 coverage, and points out Michelle Malkin's hypocrisy by referencing her book In Defense of Internment. Oh, and then he compares himself to Jesus Christ.
