Survey says: People hate New Jersey, like Pennsylvania

More Americans dislike New Jersey than any other state in the country, according to a YouGov survey.

In the "State of States" survey, YouGov found that more people have a negative opinion of New Jersey than a positive one, and the Garden State is the only state for which that is true. When asked, 40 percent of Americans don't like Jersey while only 30 percent of them do.

Why do people hate New Jersey, you ask? It could have something to do with the people. YouGov said New Jerseyans are "unusually likely to take a hardnosed attitude toward life." In a self-reported survey, people in New Jersey are also likely to say they're unlucky and prefer being alone.

The second least liked state was Alabama, with 31 percent of people saying they disliked the state and 39 percent saying they liked it. The most liked state was Hawaii and Pennsylvania tied with Florida for the most popular large state.
