Starbucks vs. Dunkin' Donuts map is the poster for America's coffee war

The Boston Globe has created a mesmerizing map of all of America's Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts location and asked business analysts to explain what the clusters of green and orange mean for the future of this country's commercial coffee war.

Unsurprisingly, Dunkin' dominates the Northeast while Starbucks has a hold on the West Coast. But, those realities might begin to shift as Dunkin plans for expansion to California in 2015 and both chains have plans for aggressive growth.

In New York City, there are about 240 Starbucks and 350 Dunkins. Across the state, there are more than 500 Starbucks and 1,200 Dunkins. Starbucks dominates in the “glitzy” areas of Manhattan, said Christopher. But elsewhere in the city, it’s Dunkins. [Boston Globe]
