Robinson Cano fired Scott Boras to sign with Jay-Z's new sports agency
On Tuesday, news broke that Jay-Z's Roc Nation is teaming up with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for a new sports agency venture. The partnership will be coined Roc Nation Sports and already has its first client because Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano has fired Scott Boras and will reportedly sign with the Roc. Also, this:
Sources say Jay-Z himself is planning to be a certified agent, first in baseball and eventually in basketball and football. In order to represent clients in basketball, he would have to give up his small share of the Brooklyn Nets.
Cue Illuminati jokes. Cano is in the final year of his $57 million deal with the Yanks. The club made an offer through Boras over the winter, but it didn't really go anywhere. He'll be represented by CAA Sports Baseball group, per the partnership's initial launch. But, Roc Nation Sports is going to be its own company.
Now, we get to look forward to Hov and company bargaining on Cano's behalf for a monster deal at the end of the 2013 season. Plus, how awesome is it going to be when athletes get to start throwing the Roc up after touchdowns and alley-oops? The vision of Jay-Z and Brian Cashman arguing about OBP+ over cigars in a Yankee Stadium office could spawn enough Moneyball fan fiction to last a decade. [ESPN]
This is a joke, this dufus has no idea what he is doing... Capsulef- JayZ = 1%
What will liberals do?!? Professor1982 - same thing we do with bill gates...glad hes on our side and not yours.
And why would anyone in Philly care who a Yankee has as an agent? Donald Segretti - Yup. Available data isn't exact, but a family enters the top 1% or so today with somewhere around $300k to $400k in pre-tax annual income and over $1.2M in net worth. Compared to the average American family with a pre-tax income in the mid-$50k range and net worth around $120k, this probably seems like a lot of money. But, there are big differences within that top 1%, with the wealth distribution highly skewed towards the top 0.1%.
They want to tax them more than the middle class. duckandmiss
Who Cano? Boras? Or Jay-Z.....in my book they are all dufuses! LOL gbreen88
That is why he partnered with someone who does. DUFUS!!! SKYMAN
If Jay-Z does his home work and works with the people who know what they are doing then he could do a good job only time will tell wqhen you have the kind of money Jay-Z has you need to do something with it. So we all shall see how his Roc Nation Sports does. srcdaddy1216
He got 99 problems but a pitch ain't one. Frédéric Bourdin, aka Nicholas Barclay
Jay-Z will make it big with this venture, gonna get all the brothas callitlikeiseethem
Let me preface by saying that I'm not a Jay Z fan...
Unlike the posters above me, I'll admit to having limited knowledge about Jay Z or his money. But, since becoming famous, he's done the opposite of most entertainers...he surrounded himself with people who know how to make money, not spend money. Financially, everything he's touched has made money. How will that translate to being a sports agent? I don't know. Maybe he's learning the ins and outs...I'm sure he or his agent have negotiated album deals, or clothing line deals, etc...so its a safe assumption that he has some experience in the area. Of course, I'm no intellectual giant, like Capsulef...maybe this is a joke and he's a dufus who has no idea what he's doing yourmomsfavoriteposter- "Financially, everything he's touched has made money"
Like the 40/40 club in Atlantic City? mephisto
God I love the city of my birth but some of these guys just so damned disappointing. Capsulef, Professor...Jesus, the haters, so consistently dumb and angry. What is wrong with you guys? VOR
Remember when Ricky Williams signed with Master P's agency and signed what most consider the worst deal ever for a high draft pick? The point is some things are better left to the professionals. Boras might be hated but he is good at what he does. superturtle- 1) "Jay-Z's Roc Nation is teaming up with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for a new sports agency venture"......He's teaming up for an established agency. His label Roc Nation is a talent agency in itself. 2) Jay-Z is worth $475 million (see Forbes) so I trust he knows what he's doing. The man makes very few errors in business.

The word is "doofus" and anyone worth half a billion isn't one. And enough w/the politics...if you love that spectrum so d*mn much why don't you go ahead and run for office, Mr. I'm-So-Patriotic-My-Flag-Is-Upside-Down? I'm guessing you've already come to the conculsion that your know-it-all, grating attitude wouldn't be too endearing to your constituents. CaptAwesome
