Philly's Kevin Hart killed it on 'SNL' this week'

This Feb. 26, 2013 photo released by NBC shows cast member Jason Sudeikis, left, and guest host Kevin Hart during rehearsals for "saturday Night Live," in New York. Hart will host the show on Saturday, March 2, with musical guest Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. (AP)

Philadelphia's own Kevin Hart was this week's host of Saturday Night Live with musical guest Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Hart's opening monologue focused on his SNL audition from back in the day and featured his Denzel Washington and Robert De Niro impressions. Later, he played Oscar nominee Quevenzhané Wallis after the 9-year-old was named as the new Pope. He called out Mississippi for being super racist, fired a creepy guy who was working at a book store, and used white guilt against the survivors on The Walking Dead.

Also, the cold open featured a "Philly school teacher" who was thrilled to lose her job to sequester-related funding cuts. The teacher addresses her students during a Barack Obama press conference with an enthusiastic, "Good luck reading Beowulf, you animals." Check out the whole episode, with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis performing "Thrift Shop" and "Can't Hold Us" over at Hulu.

Killed it is a bit of a stretch. I don't blame Hart for it. Obviously that show needs a writer or two worth a da%m#.

Killed it? I thought it outright sucked. It could have used a Hemmingway for sure.

Long, drawn out monologue about a homeless person.

I thought the entire show was really bad this week, this season so far has been particularly poor. It didn't help that I had no idea who Kevin Hart was.

I thought it was pretty good, some parts slow. Ouwachon look at the archives, when Richard Pryor hosted in 1975, he KILEED IT. HoW many Ouwachon's hosted and were they funny. PROLLY not!

It was an awful performance. Hart's grating voice and his screaming every line made it difficult to listen to. But the fact that he couldn't remember lines and had difficulty reading cue cards made it uncomfortable to watch. He is not funny in the least.

Normally an appearance hosting SNL is good for someone's career. This was a step back for KH. SNL sucks now and has been bad for years. You know you suck as sketch actors when Justin Beiber and Timberlake are funnier than your cast. Kevin Hart shouldn't have even gave then the opportunity to be blessed with his comedy.

If you mean that he illed any sketch he was in with his inability to read the teleprompter, you're spot on. The mediocre writing could not stand up to his momentum-killing stumbles.

Your kidding me? I gave up on the show after 20 mins. SNL has been done for 10 years. Bring back the Chappelle show for real comedy.

Wow, killed it? I turned it off after 20 minutes. One of the worst of the worst shows they ever aired.

If by "killed it" you mean "finished it",then yeah. He wasn't as bad as Christoph Waltz. He also totally fake-laughed during the Barnes & Noble sketch to liven up a dull, recycled sketch.
