Pennsylvania ranks second most musically patriotic state

Philadelphia is often called the birthplace of the nation and was the original United States Capital, so it makes sense that Pennsylvania would rank as one of the most musically patriotic states in the country.

Spotify, a music streaming service, conducted a study ranking the patriotism all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on their musical choices. Pa. ranked second behind the Lone Star State. Spotify ranked the states' patriotism based on how much each state listened to "Fourth of July music" during the 2014 Independence Day weekend.

What is "Fourth of July music," you ask?

Well, The top three patriotic songs of last year were "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, Florida Georgia Line's "Cruise"—a song about the ubiquitous American tradition of riding around the south in a Chevy pickup, pulling over and strumming a few guitar chords—and "We Are Young," by FUN featuring Janelle Monae.

The inclusion of "We Are Young" in the "Fourth of July music" category is a bit of a mystery, but luckily Pa. kept it real and streamed "Born in the USA" more than any other Independence Day song.

The top five most musically patriotic states are, in order, Texas, Pennsylvania, Washington, Wisconsin and Utah. The Nation's Capital ranked sixth and Vermont is the state with the least musical patriotism.

In 2013, the most streamed Fourth of July songs were Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA," Whitney Houston's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner," Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA," John Mellencamp's "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.," and "America F--- Yeah," by Team America.
