On opening weekend, Spruce Street Harbor Park vibrant as ever

Spruce Street Harbor Park reopened Memorial Day Weekend to much fanfare, including the grand opening of a pop-up waterfront skating rink in the place of the Blue Cross ice-skating rink.

Capturing the summertime excitement was Cory J Popp. "Philadelphia's needed a space like this for a while," Popp said on episode five of his "Uncover Philly" series, "and for the next few warm months, it's got it."

The video captures Spruce Street Harbor Park's day-to-night transformation into a decoratively lit, tree-filled hangout space equipped with colorful seating areas, a fountain, pop-up food stands, larger-than-life board games and, of course, hammocks.

Spruce Street Harbor Park, which was recognized as one of the world's best urban beaches, will be open for summer through September.
