New photos from Kurt Cobain's suicide scene posted 19 years later
It was 19 years ago today that Kurt Cobain killed himself (though many people insist that he was murdered). The body of the Nirvana frontman was discovered three days later, on April 8, 1994, by an electrician. Today, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer has posted previously unpublished photographs from the scene of Cobain's suicide.
A few of their frames were published after Cobain's death in 1994. But most of them have sat in the same negative sleeves they were placed in the day they were taken.
The negatives now reside at the Museum of History and Industry, which has preserved millions of P-I negatives after three donations: One in 1976, another in 1986 and a third in 2000. With the help of photo curator Howard Giske, we scanned the images that Urban, Webber and other unidentified P-I photographers took at Cobain's home in 1994 and at the memorial on April 10 of that year at Seattle Center. Rolling Stone also tweeted a link to its last interview with Cobain, published on January 27, 1994. But, if you're interested into delving into some serious Cobain material, you should read Chuck Klosterman's essay "Oh, the Guilt," which examines Cobain, Nirvana, and the band's album, In Utero, while analyzing their similarities to David Koresh, the Branch Dividians, and the Waco massacre. Originally published in the 2009 book, Eating the Dinosaur, the essay is $0.99 as a Google eBook.
Also, I'll be listening to Nirvana the rest of the day. In case anyone else is interested...
No one wants to see that mess. Let him rest in peace. MS. LOU.- There was no mess in those pictures. The most you see is his shroud covered body on a stretcher. There isn't even any indication of a wrongful death.

Nirvana would have ended up a footnote to the grunge scene, staring at Soundgarden in the distance - if he didn't kill himself. Sad, but OVERRATED. CiceroSpuriousDeodatusTheSecond- Wow, you are an idiot aren't you?

WE dont live lives on wouldve and couldves.. they are still talked about to this day, and are 1 of the greastest,(my opinion).. trimski1- I saw them in concert and they rocked. Kurt was the skeptical voice of his generation. His perspective is missed in this corporate music culture. Loved when he picked a fight with the hair band Guns n' Roses.
You know how it is with these celebs that have early success and then die young. They are worshiped because they weren't around long enough to write enough material and produce flops. MS. LOU.
But nothing about Gary Colemans death, nice. neddyflanders
Kurt was the skepical voice of..
what? nirvana was nothing more than late 80s punk with the edge safely removed so that they could be spoon fed to the masses...His perspective is missed in this corporate music culture? nirvana was a multiplatinum act on a major label whos videos played round the clock on mtv and their singles were played repeatedly on commercial radio...they were a major part of the corporate music culture!!!
cobain was a musician and wasn't the voice of anything.
nirvana were a really good band and wrote some catchy songs but the lyrics were the nothing more than the incoherent ramblings of a heroin addict. yourmomsfavoriteposter- how old are you? where you there? or is this yet another thing the ill informed youth think they have an opinion about?
Nirvana did operate within the corporate framework, yet also challenged orthodoxies of the genres (punk and metal) they didn't quite fit neatly into. Kurt made strong anti homophobic statements in interviews, and showed up to headbangers ball in a dress. willbarnett
Earth shattering photos, that really make you think (not). I think friends should not give shotguns to friends who are going through a depression as gifts. RIP no judgements, on mentally ill people. thesource
One morning, when the drugs wore off, Cobain woke up and said, "Oh my god, I married that?!" Game over. mike l- Sad they idolize this white guy while demonizing Whitney Houston. When she died they talked about Whitney's final days masturbating in a bathtub filled with liquor bottles and crack pipes. Racist and shameful. BOOKKA
- No pictures of Cobain's current home, hell??
That's where suicides burn because....it's a sin.
