As Boy Meets World gets ready to get (most of) the band back together for the forthcoming spinoff that's all but been officially picked up by Disney, the cast made its way to the ATX Television Festival in Austin, where they participated in a panel discussion and a Q&A. Notably absent were Topanga (Daniel Fischel), Mr. Feeny, (Wiliam Daniels), and Eric (Will Friedle). But, Cory, Shawn, Jack, Rachel, and the rest of the cast were prestent and answered fans questions at an event moderated by TVLine's Meg Masters.
The discussion revealed that creator Michael Jacobs cast Rider Strong as Shawn before seeing anyone else audition. It also enlightened fans to the fact that all of the young characters thought that Daniels was British when they first started the show and that the Boy Meets World finale was the only time during the series that viewers were able to see Fischel's neck tattoo.
For BMW diehards mowing through the chocolates in their Girls Meets World Advent calendars, the New York magazine piece on the reunion is a must-read.
The network and the studio were pretty involved.
As a steady, unremarkable member of ABC’s late TGIF lineup (R.I.P., Sabrina the Teenage Witch), both the network and studio Walt Disney had a vested interest in the ratings stalwart’s continued success. Joey Lawrence and Danielle Fishel recalled receiving a lot of notes for their early performances. But toward the end of its run, Jacobs and cast felt safe to try bold, occasionally weird, possibly meta experiments, like the Halloween episode that now serves as a proto-Community episode. “We were this safe, Friday night show that no one was writing about,” Strong said.
