Don Draper is hosting the ESPYs

Jon Hamm. You know him from Mad Men or his antagonist role in The Town or his guest spots on 30 Rock or that Tumblr dedicated to his bathing suit parts. The man we call Donald Draper/Dick Whitman will host the 2013 ESPYs.

The award ceremony will be aired live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles on July 17th. Hamm's a huge Cardinals (of the St. Louis persuasion) fan. He played third base in two of Major League Baseball's celebrity softball games, which means that he got to share that side of the infield with his childhood idol, Ozzie Smith.

If you're not already giddy about Hamm handling hosting duties, check out this incredibly natural statement—from Maura Mandt, the executive producer of the ESPYs—that definitely wasn't manufactured for a press release.

"The ESPYS is designed to showcase the year's best sports moments in a sharp, fun and entertaining manner and Jon's the perfect host for this year's show. His appearances on shows like 30 Rock and SNL show that humor and creativity are two of his main strengths. The combination of Jon's dry wit with his passion for sports will give fans a unique and original view of the year in sports."

Overcome with anticipation yet? No? Try this actually funny, self-depricating barb from Hamm on for size.

"I'm very excited to be hosting the ESPYS. As a longtime sports fan and a marginally successful high school athlete I feel my skill-set jibes well with a host's duties," Hamm said. "I now have to figure out what cleats to wear with a tuxedo."

See. Now you can hardly contain yourself. If you need more Hamm in your life between now and July 17th, check out his Rolling Stone issue that hit newsstands a few weeks back. For the accompanying feature, he opened up about Don Draper, talked about hiking and dive bars, and addressed that Tumblr dedicated to his privates.

Or, start watching Mad Men on Sundays like you should have been doing all along and read our episode recaps every Monday.
