Curt Schilling says the Red Sox suggested he use PEDs in 2008

Curt Schilling has said he personally lost almost $50 million when 38 Studios, his video game company, filed for bankruptcy. (Steven Senne/AP Photo)

Curt Schilling made an appearance on ESPN Radio on Wednesday for a conversation with Colin Cowherd. During the interview, Schilling said that a handful of former members of the Red Sox organization encouraged him to consider taking performance enhancing drugs toward the end of his career.

Schilling was injured in 2008 when, he says, four members of the Red Sox organization brought of PEDs as an avenue he should consider.

Asked for more details, Schilling said the conversation occurred in the clubhouse and involved “former members of the organization — they’re no longer there. It was an incredibly uncomfortable conversation. Because it came up in the midst of a group of people. The other people weren’t in the conversation but they could clearly hear the conversation. And it was suggested to me that at my age and in my situation, why not? What did I have to lose? Because if I wasn’t going to get healthy, it didn’t matter. And if I did get healthy, great.

The bombshell comes just a week after the Miami New Times published an investigative report on an alleged PED ring based in Miami that implicates Alex Rodriguez and other MLB players. [WEEI]

Isn't Curt the one who blasted the "alleged" PED users for not coming clean? he should name names and not put out innuendos ... he is better than that.

Good posts up and down the board.

Schilling is a neo-con fraud. He's barely on the threshold of consideration for HOF, yet, panders to the ESPN crowd while he spews his bloviation anywhere anyone will listen to him. He likes to think of himself as a prince of the game.

Now he bashes the RedSox organization? He hates the Phils, and consistently bashes and undermines them.

    Bloody sock anyone? Wah, wah.
Stuff it in your mouth, Schill.

Schilling is broke, so he will probably name names in a book so he can get paid.

So why speak up now? If this happened 5 years ago why did you wait? Could it be because you have hit rock bottom financially? He pitched his game company and he lost. He's selling his bloody sock to pay his bills. This could be the lead in to a book where he gets up front money to tell his sordid tale. If this is true, and they are "former" Red Sox officials, then why are you protecting them by not naming names? Answer: their names will be in my book.

Dan, just backin' u up! Maybe it's the 80 degrees and clear skies here. Schilling has a holier than thou attitude as it applies to baseball, politics, and business. Loved him with my Phillies, but since he retired he's got too much mouth, IMHO. He goes on espn where they throw him 60mph softballs and he gets space here on Philly.com. Look at me I'm pure and innocent. Gimme a break, dude.

good for Curt. people always want to jump on and kill the people who speak out. remember the treatment Jose Canseco got when he wrote his book exposing the steroid use in baseball? he was labeled a pariah. he was universally called a liar and a joke just trying to make money. well it turned out he was right about everything. he nailed every fact in his book, and now he's remembered as the guy who blew the lid off.

we can't simultaneously blame players for the steroid culture in their sport, and then condemn people who speak out against it. I say good for Schilling for having the courage to speak the truth and expose the culture of PED in baseball.

I don't care about his motivation. It is about time the organizations, that all at least knew about the use of PEDs if not encouraged their use, are also called out to the mat.
