Congressmen spent thousands of dollars on coffee and Qdoba

A report from the Washington Guardian takes a look at how members of Congress spent tens of thousands of dollars on coffee and other food items despite only being in session about a third of the time in the last quarter of 2012.

For instance, House Speaker John Boehner spent more than $2,200 on coffee in November.

Then there's the fact that California Republican and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy's office spent $2,500 at Qdoba in one day. The real issue here is that they spent it at Qdoba and not Chipotle. Yes, I'm aware Chipotle doesn't have queso. Doesn't matter. The hierarchy of fast food, counter-order Mexican restaurants clearly goes Chipotle, Qdoba, Baja Fresh, Moe's. Everyone knows this.

McCarthy's office spent similar amounts at Chicken Out Catering and a Washington Buca di Beppo. Italian from a chain restaurant? C'mon. If you're going to spend $2,600 of taxpayer money on Italian food, at least do it right.

Majority Leader Eric Cantor's office racked up the smallest tab during 2012's final quarter, dropping a mere $4,200 in expenditures. [Washington Guardian]
