Chicago HS plans school shooting drill with blank ammo

A Chicago-area high school will conduct a school shooting drill on Wednesday. Cary-Grove High School—located northwest of Chicago—has planned a 15-20 minute "code red" drill with blank ammunition to help teach students what gunfire sounds like and how they should react in the event of an attack at the school. Many parents aren't thrilled about the idea.

Parent Sharon Miller says the way Cary-Grove has planned the code red drill is absurd and also thinks it's not necessary to shoot blanks in the hallway.

"If you need to run a drill, you run a drill," she told WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya. "They run fire drills all the time, but they don't run up and down the hallway with a flamethrower."

School spokesman Jeff Puma says that the parents that have contacted the school regarding the drill have been evently split for and against it. He says the school has been working with the Cary Police Department and planned at the behest of the department. [CBS 2]
