Ardmore’s Tired Hands Brewing Company releases Ecto Cooler-inspired beer

We haven’t seen Hi-C’s legendary Ecto Cooler since around 2007, with Minute Maid pulling the drink from store shelves that year after an unceremonious name-change to “Citrus Cooler.” Now, though, Ecto Cooler has made a return of sorts — this time in beer form, and it’s all thanks to Ardmore’s Tired Hands Brewing Company.

We haven't seen Hi-C's legendary Ecto Cooler since around 2007, with Minute Maid pulling the drink from store shelves that year after an unceremonious name-change to "Citrus Cooler."

Now, though, Ecto Cooler has made a return of sorts — this time in beer form, and it's all thanks to Ardmore's Tired Hands Brewing Company, which features a stellar experimental brew lab for just this kind of thing.

Dubbed "Necto Cooler," Tired Hands' Ecto Cooler-inspired brew saw a limited release last week on draught and cask. Unfortunately, though, it's already sold out — though, as a Tired Hands rep recently told iHorror, the brewery will "never say never" to returning a beloved beer.

A departure from the Real Ghostbusters tie-in that Ecto Cooler was, Necto Cooler serves as a sour wheat beer tribute to the most classic kids' beverage of the '80s and '90s. The brew is conditioned with grilled nectarines, hopped with Simcoe and Citra hops, and stands at about 4.5 percent ABV.

For the uninitiated, Ecto Cooler packed a ton of orange-y flavor into a neon green beverage. So, naturally, the only way to make that any better was to add some alcoholic content.

Unfortunately for us, though, it looks like we missed out this time around. However, if you go ahead and let Tired Hands know you want a taste for yourself, they might just eventually oblige.

Which, of course, would be a great thing. As the PPD told us back in June, a revitalization of Ecto Cooler could "single-handedly end all crime in Philadelphia in one hour."

Your move, Tired Hands.
