After being beheaded in Philly, hitchBOT hangs with Kevin Smith in Brooklyn

After being unceremoniously dismantled in Philly this past weekend, hitchBOT all but disappeared from the map. Now, though, it appears he’s turned up in Brooklyn — with Jersey native and director Kevin Smith.

After being unceremoniously dismantled in Philly this past weekend, hitchBOT all but disappeared from the map. Now, though, it appears he's turned up in Brooklyn — with Jersey native and director Kevin Smith.

As it turns out, whoever it was that found hitchBOT is reportedly a big Kevin Smith fan, and made a stop with the hitchhiking robot at a screening of Mallrats in Brooklyn on Tuesday. Because, at this point, what's another little detour, really?

HitchBOT's anonymous finder appears to have settled on attending the event after speaking with podcaster Scott Holden, who hosts a fan-produced show focused on the Kevin Smith movie universe. Evidently, Holden suggested that the holder of hitchBOT attend the event, which they did.

Oddly, though, hitchBOT was not brought up on stage at the screening. However, photos provided by Holden to Gizmodo do provide further evidence that this is the real deal.

Holden will also reportedly be discussing the anonymous hitchBOT finder — as well as the robot's trip to meet Kevin Smith — on a future podcast.

Smith, for his part, is rumored to be filming Mallbrats, the sequel to Mallrats, at the Granite Run Mall this fall. No word on hitchBOT's involvement there.

Whether the robot will make its way back to Canada at some point, of course, is a different story. The upshot, though: Ed Bassmaster and Jesse Wellens aren't involved.
