As predicted, The Roots Picnic was a phenomenal two-day dream. If you are as sad as we are about it being over, don't worry, you're about to relive it. Our photographer Yusuf Muhammad was on the scene to catch some amazing behind the scenes photos. Check them out below.

WKDU: What do you think of Philly audiences?

Local Natives: Amazing, I think. From the last bunch of nights, the crowd in Philly was the best. They were so enthusiastic. That made it a better show, this contagious feeling. The show depends on people watching and how involved they get. We have gotten a little writing done on tour, though I wish we had more material. We’re going to start seriously on writing new material with our nose to the ground after this tour.

WKDU: I know that you’re signed to Frenchkiss Records. How are they as a label and what have they done for you that makes them stand out from other labels? How are the other label mates? Do you do any collaborations with other artists?

If you’re a fan of Deer Tick, you may want to listen to WKDU on January 21st at 3:15pm. Reason being: John McCauley and Ian O’Neil plan to stop by for an unforgettable performance. So, if you’ve got plans, drop them and tune into The Music of Sound on 91.7FM (or wkdu.org) that Friday because this is a treat you don’t want to miss.
-Hillary Sabetta

Deer Tick’s frontman John McCauley and guitarist/vocalist Ian O’Neil have announced eight upcoming shows in January 2011. The duo plans to perform songs from that record in smaller venues along with older Deer Tick songs, cover tunes and songs from McCauley’s other project, Middle Brother (formerly MG&V).

Tune in to Cannon to a Whisper this week (Wednesday 8-10 p.m.) to hear a Guest DJ set and interview with Will Noon, the drummer of Straylight Run and Breaking Pangaea! Noon has toured with bands like Fun, and is a manager extraordinaire. Breaking Pangaea's full length, Cannon to a Whisper is this particular program's namesake, and we're psyched to have him coming in.

We'll be talking about and hearing bands he's in, has been in, is managing, or whatever else comes up. Check it out this Wednesday, January 19th, 8-10 p.m. on WKDU Philadelphia 91.7FM.
