All summer long excitement was in the air as people waited anxiously for the arrival of the highly anticipated Made in America Festival that Jay-z announced in May. This past weekend, the festival finally arrived, and it was just as magical as we'd all hoped it would be, if not more.
With acts like Run DMC, Pearl Jam, Drake, The Hives, Calvin Harris, Santigold, a surprise performance from Kanye West and of course, Jay-z himself, this is an event that Philadelphia will never forget. Photos by Marie Alyse Rodriguez.
Last night, Fader magazine hosted a free show with Wu-Tang rapper GZA and the Latin funk ensemble Grupo Fantasma at the legendary Sigma Sound Studios.
DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick Boogie have time and time again impressed the masses with their unparalelled song selection when it comes to their Summertime Mixtapes. For the 3rd edition of this series, that trend remains the same. Spanning multiple genres and artists, the Summertime III Mixtape is truly going to set the tone for your summer parties, road trips, and hang outs.
One of the most notable tracks on the mixtape has to be the intro from one of Philadelphia's favorite sons, Will Smith. Smith and Jazzy Jeff reunite 21 years after the release of the original track "Summertime", a tune that has characterized summer longing far too well.
Most commonly known for her tours with The Kills and The Fiery Furnaces, the lovely frontwoman Eleanor Friedberger finally released her solo debut album, Last Summer, in July of 2011. Now, after finishing up her tour dates with The Fiery Furnaces, Friedberger has released the dates for her upcoming fall tour. Luckily, she will be making a stop in Philadelphia at Union Transfer on October 19th. You can expect to hear a 60’s girl group vibe filled with funk and pop sounds alongside Friedberger’s sultry voice. She will also be accompanied by the Portland, Oregon and Washington, DC based psychedelic-pop girl group, Wild Flag.
