Brigantine Elks Bayfest
Three evenings and one big Sunday constitute this lodge-grown festival featuring local cover bands, a raffle, a bouncy house, and a watermelon-eating contest. Sunday highlights include a $3 continental breakfast, followed by the Dorothy H. Mohn Mile Swim, and a homemade fruit-pie competition later that afternoon.

Absecon Island Surfing Championship
This 40-something-year-old, all-ages local contest takes place, reasonable conditions permitting, on the north side of the Ventnor Fishing Pier. Regulars know to sign up beforehand and arrive by 7 a.m. to make their heats.

Wildwoods Restaurant Week
Just like in Philly, Wildwoods Restaurant Week begins when business drops off. For six nights, at 25 spots, four-course dinners — app, salad, entrée, dessert — go for $30. On the to-try list: Pacific Grill, Urie’s, Duffer’s, Dog Tooth, Cattle ‘n Clover, and the Boathouse.
