Concert picks for 12 of our favorite Philly venues

POSTED: Monday, April 1, 2013, 11:22 AM

If you had the motivation and means, you could certainly catch a live show every night of the week in Philly, home to the likes of John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, DJ Drama, Patti LaBelle, The Roots, Will Smith, Meek Mill, Dr. Dog and Man Man in more recent years. But choosing a venue can be just as crucial to your overall experience as choosing which artist to drop your dollars on and with whom to see them.

Luckily we’ve done all the legwork so you can save your strength for the dance floor. So peruse the interwebs for additional listings, strap on your dancing shoes and put some decent decibels in your dome at one (or all) of our favorite local venues.

@jdb - you sure you have any idea what you are talking about bud? Try the Philly non-ticket-master shops and you will avoid the things you vaguely describe.

Johnny Brendas is probably my favorite spot with The Church close behind. Cant beat a BYO venue! For mid-size venues i'll take Union Transfer all day over the TLA and Electric Factory with their $8 miller lites.

Venues are horrible in comparison to what? NY? Get a clue...go to the midwest and tell what "variety" you find out there.

Philly has an awesome music scene with a great mix of venues. R5 is one of the best things to happen to any music scene anywhere. To the losers posting here, why on earth do you stay in Philly? Are you in prison? Are you afraid to give up the free rent in your mom's basement? You can't get your boss at the 7-11 to ok your transfer to Oklahoma? It's a free country, move out and stop bothering the people who actually enjoy living in one of the best cities in the world.
