This week in Philly: July 6-July 12

A few ways to spend your week in (and out of) Philly.

A few ways to spend your week in (and out of) Philly.

Monday, July 6

In honor of one of the greatest (made up) holidays, all Federal Donuts locations (701 N. 7th St., 1219 S. 2nd St., 1632 Sansom St., 3428 Sansom St.) will shell out their Spruce Street Harbor Park-only fan-favorite PortFedNuts fried chicken sandwich for National Fried Chicken Day. They'll have 'em from 11 a.m. until sellout, so get there quickly.

Keep the vibes of the weekend alive at Silk City (5th and Spring Garden Streets) for Motown on Mondays where resident DJs Junior and Lil' Dave put their spin on the best Motown and soul starting at 9 p.m.

Tuesday, July 7

Dell Music Center (2400 Strawberry Mansion Dr.) hosts a movie night starting at 7 p.m. They're showing Academy Award-nominated Best Picture Selma.

For a casual evening in Longwood Gardens (1001 Longwood Rd., Kennett Square), two-thirds of Peter, Paul & Mary, Peter Yarrow and Noel Paul Stookey will perform the group's hits (like "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Puff (The Magic Dragon)") beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 8

Beat the mid-week blues with a 6:30 p.m. hour-long Vinyasa yoga class at Franklin Square (6th and Race Streets).

Make like The Wombats and "dance to Joy Division" and other like-sounding post-punk bands at the Dolphin Tavern (1539 S. Broad St.) for Unknown Pleasures, kicking off at 9 p.m.

Thursday, July 9

Kicking off a night of anniversary celebrations, Nerd Nite — a monthly gathering and discussion of a variety of historical, entertaining and scientific topics — honors their fifth with a series of talks concentrating in steam power in Philadelphia to the culture in Antarctica. Doors are at 6 p.m. at Johnny Brenda's (1201 Frankford Ave.)

Blending grooves, pop-leaning guitars and synths (think Twinsmith), Brooklyn's Fort Lean come to MilkBoy (1100 Chestnut St.) to open for Dave Monks (of Tokyo Police Club fame) for Y-Not Radio's 5th Anniversary Show. Things get underway at 8 p.m.

Friday, July 10

It's no secret that French culture is totally idolized and romanticized — with reason. Hop on the bandwagon at the Barnes Foundation (2025 Benjamin Franklin Parkway) for a night of French music and wine for a 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. mixer.

Taking nearly four decades off seems a little extreme. Yet UK punksters The Rezillos are emerging from such an extended time away to support their new album Zeros at Kung Fu Necktie (1248 N. Front St.). The show starts at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 11

Here comes the brid(al sale). Anthropologie's vintage-inspired wedding line BHLDN is holding a sample sale where gowns priced regularly at $3,600 could go for as little as $100. Bring your credit cards (seriously, plastic only) to the Navy Yard (5000 S. Broad St., Building 3) from 9 a.m. to noon.

Thunder from Down Under are like Magic Mike, but real. And Australian. They'll charm and seduce their way into audiences' hearts (does the fact that they won't be wearing shirts help or hurt?) for two performances: 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. at the Valley Forge Casino Resort (1160 First Ave., King of Prussia).

Sunday, July 12

Giving everyone from beer fanatics to casual drinkers insight on the history, taste and production of local beers, Philly Brew Tours kick off their summer season this weekend. The original brew tour takes visitors to three local breweries, tasting 15 beers along the way, and lunch at 2nd Story Brewing. Tours depart from 1211 Arch St. (across from Panera Bread) at 11 a.m.

Families can create their own watercolor and oil pastel paintings at Philadelphia's Magic Gardens (1020 South St.) as a part of PECO Family Jams from noon to 4 p.m. Kid-friendly tours will also be given at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
