This week in Philly: Aug. 24-Aug. 30

A few ways to spend your week in (and out of) Philly.

A few ways to spend your week in (and out of) Philly.

Monday, Aug. 24

Toddlers with a knack for exploring in the wilderness should enjoy this forest walk and fun lesson on what makes the woods cool in the summer at the Tyler Arboretum (515 Painter Rd., Media). During the hour walk, beginning at 10 a.m., little explorers can keep their eyes peeled for the fairies and gnomes that inhabit the woods.

Feed the Jurasic World-induced nostalgia by checking out a screening of the OG: Jurassic Park at the Trocadero (1003 Arch St.) at 8 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. though for this 21-and-older event.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

A deal that speaks to the soul, Kensington Quarters (1310 Frankford Ave.) pulls out all the stops with their fried chicken special. Starting at 5 p.m. 20 bucks is all you need to chow down on a half chicken, a biscuit and two sides.

Have a lot of knowledge and not enough opportunities to show it off? Hit up Geeks Who Drink, a pub quiz night starting at 8:30 p.m. at Craft Manayunk (4141 Main St.).

Wednesday, Aug. 26

Think of all the potential Instagrams just waiting to be snapped during Mural Arts' Mural Mile tour. Offered at 11 a.m., walkers can choose to scout a one-mile area either north or south of Market Street, lead by a knowledgeable guide who'll fill you in on the history of these pieces of art. Tours depart from the Philly Tour Hub (229 Arch St.).

Put your jazz shoes on. Or at least just work up your jazz appreciation for a performance from the Red Hot Ramblers, a 1920s-inspired ensemble, who're playing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the outdoor courtyard at the Penn Museum (3260 South St.).

Thursday, Aug. 27

The Mütter Museum (19 S. 22nd St.), home of pieces of Albert Einstein's brain and a plethora of skulls, premieres an exclusive beer inspired by their own medicinal plant garden. Brewed with fennel and ginger, Ümlaut Fever will be available for sampling from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the museum's medicinal plant garden. Entry's free — but you'll have to buy the beer — and includes access to the new "Mind Illuminated" exhibit.

Daily News sports writers Ed Barkowitz, Mike Kern, Jeff Neiburg and Editor Rich Hofmann will lead the way for a Fantasy Football Draft Party at Bar-Ly (101 N. 11th St.) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Talk picks, enjoy a free drink and snack on some light bites.

Friday, Aug. 28

We're pretty sure there won't be anywhere else to sift through vintage fashions and carnival games except for this Vintage Americana Carnival. As a part of South Street Headhouse District's Fourth Friday series, games, market, face painting, food trucks, music, magicians and more will set up shop on Bainbridge Street between 4th and 5th Streets from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. In addition, Fourth Friday excitement begins with local boutiques like Bus Stop (727 S. 4th St.) and Urban Princess Boutique (620 S. 4th St.) holding sales and the grand opening of Beer Love (714 S. 4th St.).

Multi-instrumentalist Emil Amos has been making records under the moniker Holy Sons for 15 years. His most recent release, Fall of Man, sees Amos taking a more pop-leaning approach to his jams. Holy Sons plays Underground Arts (1200 Callowhill St.) with Earth at 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 29

Whether you're training for a Spartan Race, looking for a challenge or are insane, this workout will get you into shape. For both newbies and vets, this two-hour session, which begins at 8 a.m., will help prepare you for the race's obstacles and challenges. It's free and held at Citizens Bank Park (1 Citizens Bank Way).

Dust of your slacks. The summer installment of photography showcase "Casual Business" returns and features work from local photogs — including Philly.com's own Gabrielle Bonghi. It's at the Kitchen Table Gallery (1853 N. Howard St.) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sunday, Aug. 30

Olympic runners Erin Donahue and Gary Fanelli will help lead the way in the first Belmont Plateau Hall of Fame Classic, a 5k and 1-mile run/walk with benefits going towards the restoration of the race course. Registration opens at Belmont Plateau (Fairmount Park, Montgomery Dr. and Army Rd.) at 7:30 a.m. The walk kicks off at 9:30 a.m. followed by the 5k at 10 a.m.

The picturesque gardens in the Powel House (244 S. 3rd St.) play host to the Shakespeare classic "Much Ado About Nothing" outside the historic home. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket to the closing 2 p.m. performance.
