This autumn and winter season, The Piazza in Northern Liberties will be transforming into a sparkly winter wonderland, starting with an outdoor skating rink.

Yes, you read right. The central, open area inside The Piazza will morph into a state of the art 5,000 square foot pop-up skating rink. The rink will be open for three months, beginning the first weekend after Thanksgiving and closing at the end of the Sochi Winter Olympics on Feb. 23, 2014.

The rink is just one of the many spectacles to be seen here this holiday season. They will also be hosting a winter market, with food trucks and craft vendors galore, classic winter movie screenings, and more is promised to come.

The Piazza will ring in the new rink with a celebration on Monday, Dec. 2 that will involve a tree lighting ceremony, local vendors, and live performances. The opening event runs from 6 - 9 p.m. and will feature delicious fare from Sweet Box, Dapper Dog, and Cow & the Curd. You can also get your photo taken with Santa!
