TGIFF: June First Friday picks

When you leave the office this Friday, be aware that unlike every other Friday, one of this nature comes around only once a month. That's right: it's time for First Friday, which this month lands on June 6.

However, Haddonfield, NJ doesn't want to wait until business hours have concluded to start the First Friday activities. The town is holding a morning networking session at Wells Fargo Bank on Haddon Avenue from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. where you can swap business cards and chat with other area professionals.

If you noticed the installation of a 34-foot construction at Iroquois Park late last month and want to learn more about the sculpture and the artist, the Association for Public Art will be hosting a celebration at the park on the Parkway starting at 5 p.m. Attendees can meet the artist, enjoy refreshments and marvel at the giant sculpture, "Symbiosis."

As Philly Beer Week comes to a close, impress your friends and learn how to make your own cider courtesy of Tria's wine director, Michael McCaulley. The Chemical Heritage Foundation on Chestnut Street will hold Cider, Cyder, or Cidre? from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will supply free cider tastings while supplies last.

Few things beat the thrill of scoring a great find at a vintage or consignment shop. Shop and demo Mary Kay beauty products at Twice Found consignment shop in Lancaster, PA from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The first 20 visitors will also receive a mini hand cream sample.

From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., participating art galleries in Wilmington, DE premiere new exhibits and offer visitors a chance to see them all, courtesy of their self guided tours and trolley service during Art on the Town.

Artists Ernel Martinez and Keir Johnston of Amber Art and Design collaborated with Asian Arts Initiative for their latest exhibit, "Corner Store: Takeout Stories." The opening reception takes place at the Vine Street gallery from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and you'll be the first to see the work that examines the culture of city corner stores.

The Barnes Foundation on the Parkway fuses music and art every month at their First Friday exhibits. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., enjoy cocktails while singer Carla Cook performs and be the first to see a portion of an upcoming Foundation exhibit.

If you have burning desires to know what the future holds, Queen of Wands Tarot can tell you what's in store at Scout Salvage and Vintage Rescue. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. the card reader will be giving free readings at the Old City vintage shop.

For month two of their exhibition at Art in the Age, Search & Rescue brings their vintage finds to North 3rd Street where Peddler Coffee will be serving cold brew outside while inside Spodee Wine will be flowing starting at 6 p.m.

An outdoor pop-up installation plants its roots at 6 p.m. in Liberty Lands Park on 3rd and Poplar Streets. "Pure Bliss" features work from local artists Jamie Howell and Makenzie Flynn utilizing and embracing typically overlooked resources like objects found in nature or repurposed materials.

Come hungry to Nannygoat Antiques & Vintage Design as they hold an outdoor cookout. Bring your favorite dish, dessert or beverage to share from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Narberth, PA antiques store.

It's a five for $5 deal at Pinot Boutique in Old City. For just 5 bucks you can sample five available wines from Paradox Vineyard, Auburn Road Winery, and Pinnacle Ridge Winery at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you feel like sitting back and relaxing this First Friday, head to the Haverford Township Free Library in Havertown, PA for a 7 p.m. screening of Saving Mr. Banks, the biographical flick about the making of Disney's Mary Poppins, starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney.

Vice Coffee and Tattoos on Spring Garden will be busy on for their First Friday party, starting at 7:30 p.m. They'll have drink selections from Baltimore's Heavy Seas Brewing and Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey as well as art displayed from Jennifer Page and Alan Skalaski. Smak Parlour's fashion truck and Fox Paw Presents roll out all the fine goods you'll want to blow your paycheck on.

For one night only at FringeArts, a group of musicians, dance and video artists present a tribute to jazz composer Sun Ra—and the show will be entirely unrehearsed. Artists from around the country bring the inspirational presentation to life at the space on Columbus Boulevard starting at 8 p.m. and following the show, the artists will celebrate with the audience at an after-show dance party.
