Besides the changing of the seasons from spring to summer, Saturday, June 21 brings an evening full of entertainment at the Kimmel Center’s Solstice in the City.
Starting at 8 p.m., the venue’s Jazz Lounge at the SEI Innovation Studio opens, featuring performances from Kimmel Center Jazz resident musicians including Josh Lawrence and the Fresh Cut Orchestra, Pablo Batista, and Bobby Zankel during the evening.
On stage at Verizon Hall, indie duo Beverly, whose debut Careers is expected on July 1, get the evening started, warming the crowd up for Brooklyn baroque-pop outfit San Fermin and guitar-pop five piece Real Estate will provide the night’s main entertainment and set the scene for the night’s additional sonic experiences.
A set from Philly’s own DJ MR BEST and a performance from Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts Street Fair alum, La Compagnie du Transe Express will follow the main stage entertainment at the venue’s Commonwealth Plaza so bring your dancing shoes.
The Solstice Lounge will house your every leisurely need from foosball tables to hammocks throughout the night—which ends at 2 a.m. (The longest day of the year can wear you out, you know.) Cocktails and chow will be provided by Chef Jose Garces for your purchasing pleasure.
Let La Compagnie du Transe Express get you ready for Saturday's festivities as they head to Paine’s Park, located west of Eakin’s Oval on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, for a pop-up performance on Friday, June 20. At 1 p.m. the French performance artists will give viewers a taste of their Solstice act—an interactive drum circle show.
So take advantage of that extra daylight and soak in the sounds of summer.
