#PhillyFive Things to Do: Sept. 18, 2014

Thursdays are almost as good as Fridays, which are almost as good as Saturdays.

Thursdays are almost as good as Fridays, which are almost as good as Saturdays.

For a cultural festival: If waiting for Saint Patty's Day seems like to arduous a task, take that green pride down the shore for the Irish Fall Festival, held on Olde New Jersey Ave. in Wildwood. Dancing, food, golf tournament, parade and transportation services all occur in the name of the Irish. Today's festivities run from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.

For elementary school flashbacks: Photographer Judy Gelles documented 200 fourth grade students from all over the world. Compare the lives and living conditions of these youngsters at the Open Lens Gallery at the Gershman Y (401 S. Broad St.). "The Fourth Grade Project" opens today and is available for view from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

For a first: The country's first LGBT jazz festival, OutBeat, begins today. Things get underway at the William Way LGBT Community Center (1315 Spruce St.) at 5 p.m. with a conversation between New York Times' Nate Chinen and jazz pianist Fred Hersch.

For fancy foods: During the Di Bruno Bros at the Franklin's (834 Chestnut St.) weekly Thursday Happy Hour, they'll debut ten new products, curated at the annual "Fancy Foods" Show. Taste Tonewood Maple products, Skillet bacon and pumpkin spreads, Hernan Mexican hot chocolate and more from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For a street fair: Food tastes better when it comes to you. Over 50 food trucks line up along Germantown Ave. from Sedgwick St. to Mt. Airy Ave. from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. to serve the best curbside bites and beverages during Mt. Airy's Street Fare. The Cow and the Curd, Foolish Waffles and Sweet Box Cupcakes should pique your interest.
