#PhillyFive Things to Do: March 16, 2015

This won’t last forever — get going!

This won't last forever — get going!

For budding chefs: Pick up Marc Vetri's new cookbook, "Mastering Pasta" and Jeff Benjamin's "Front of the House" at Alla Spina (1410 Mt. Vernon St.) for a release party, complete with live demonstrations, book signings and samples of pastas from the book and drinks. The party runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

For a lesson: Get schooled in the seasoning, fermenting and packaging of cabbage into a jar — which will eventually result in yielding sauerkraut at this 6 p.m. workshop at the Free Library of Philadelphia's Central Branch (1901 Vine St.).

For a conversation: Artists from local public art collective Amber Art & Design and representatives from Twin Cities creative network Works Progress Studio will discuss urban planning, community organizing and public art at a 6 p.m. panel at Moore College of Art and Design (20th and Race Streets).

For a laugh: The 11th Hour Theatre Company pokes fun at the competitive dynamics of a high school field hockey team in "Field Hockey Hot," playing at 7 p.m. at the Adrienne Theatre (2030 Sansom St.).

For tunes: Spend the evening at Union Transfer (1026 Spring Garden St.) when synthy five-piece Magic Man comes to play — and sing about girls from Paris — at 8:30 p.m.
