#PhillyFive Things to Do: Feb. 18, 2015

That feeling isn’t indigestion, it’s excitement.

That feeling isn't indigestion, it's excitement.

For a screening: The Community College of Philadelphia (1700 Spring Garden St.) will screen the 2014 satire Dear White People starting at 4:30 p.m. at the school's Winnet Student Life Building.

For adults: Despite living in times that were quite different than our own, the Romans still knew how to add a little romance into their lives. Dr. Brian Rose, Curator-in-Chief of the Penn Museum (3260 South St.) Mediterranean section leads a talk in ancient Roman displays of passion starting at 6 p.m. Throughout the three-hour night, hit up the cash bar and also take a tour of the galleries and see a burlesque show.

For a multimedia experience: Inspired by the sculptures, paintings and prints by artist Chakai Booker at Drexel University's Leonard Pearlstein Gallery (3401 Filbert St.), four local poets will perform spoken word pieces starting at 7 p.m. Half-an-hour prior, though the poets will guide visitors through writing exercises on their own.

For those with their sea legs: Other than the living creatures that dwell at the bottom of the ocean, ruins from shipwrecks and other sunken vessels have made their mark in the depths of the deep blue sea. Learn about famous sinkages while sipping on cocktails at the Independence Seaport Museum's (211 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd.) adults-only Think and Drink program, running from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

For a trip back in time: Revisit the '70s through the drag experience of The Dumpsta Players when they lipsync the "worst of the worst" songs from the decade, laced with campy anecdotes. "Sucky '70s 2," benefitting Philly Aids Thrift, takes on Bob & Barbara's Lounge (1509 South St.) starting at 11 p.m. for 21-and-older show goers.
