Warm up with a handful of hot events.

Warm up with a handful of hot events.

For an insightful discussion: Learn how to eloquently converse and debate sensitive topics like race, politics, sex, money and religion at this free seminar at the Painted Bride Art Center (230 Vine St.) at 5:30 p.m.

For top-notch viewing: Ahead of this Sunday's Oscars, be the person at the party that's actually seen some of the nominated short films after attending a screening of a trio of them at the Ambler Theater (108 E. Butler Ave.) at 5:30 p.m. tonight. On the docket tonight is "Our Curse," "White Earth" and "The Reaper (La Parka)."

For a grand slam: The Moth, a storytelling organization, hosts their GrandSLAM — a finale of sorts, where ten of their Story Slam champions take to the Union Transfer (1026 Spring Garden St.) stage to take turns spinning a yarn centered around the topic of being a fish out of water. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.

For an edible bucket list: You know those things you just have to experience before you die? This talk at the Free Library Central Branch (1901 Vine St.) sort of outlines the same things. Mimi Sheraton, former New York Times restaurant critic and author comes to the library at 7:30 p.m. to discuss her new book, "1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die," helping you grow and tackle your food bucket list.

For live music: Based off of a character from Gabriel García Márquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude," Francisco The Man bring their '90s inspired jams to Boot and Saddle (1131 S. Broad St.) for an 8:30 p.m. show.
