It’s nice to know that there are some seriously charitable folks in the area. They don’t call Philly the City of Brotherly Love for nothing! Over the next few weeks there are a ton of functions around town that are raising money for great causes.
Lovers of history should attend the Spring at the Mansion fundraiser at the Philadelphia Art Alliance. The home of the Philadelphia Art Alliance, the Wetherill Mansion needs a little help in the preservation and restoration areas, so a portion of the proceeds at this event, which gets underway at 6 p.m., will go towards that. Guests will be treated to food from Rittenhouse Tavern, live music and a silent auction on Friday, May 2.
Non-profit group CureDuchenne is hosting a night of “blingo” at the Hyatt Regency at Penn’s Landing this Saturday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. All the money raised at this evening of bling and bingo will go into research to find a cure for Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Some big names will be in attendance including former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, American Idol alum Sarah Burgess and producer of the “Preston and Steve Show” on WMMR, Marissa Magnatta.
The annual Night of Broadway Stars, featuring performances by Broadway legends like Capthia Jenkins (Dream Girls), Danny Zolli (Jesus Christ Superstar), Craig Schulman (Les Miserables) and a pre-show performance by Jon Bon Jovi takes place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Wednesday, May 7. This event supports Covenant House Pennsylvania, a group that provides services to homeless and runaway youth in Philadelphia. Get there right after work: cocktail hour starts at 5:30 p.m.
