Philadelphia summer camp picks for kids

With school winding down, summer camps are an excellent choice for parents with little ones. There is something for everyone.

For our little Picassos, PAFA hosts a series of art classes. If your child is adventurous and loves wildlife, the Philadelphia Zoo is great. Take a peek at these summer camp offerings.

Camp Woodward

For young shredders, Camp Woodward is a skateboarder/roller blader/biker's dream getaway. With over 10 facilities full of different features -- whether your kid likes to go big on vertical ramps or stick it to the street, this camp has something for everyone. The first week of camp starts on Sunday, June 7 and is available for ages 7-18.

Philadelphia Union: Soccer School

Kick it with the pros throughout the summer at this instructional soccer camp. Not only will kids improve their footwork, they also will get an exclusive tour of the stadium as well as a meet and greet with the players and staff. The first week of camp starts Monday, June 8 and is available for ages 6-14.

Nature Ramblers Summer Camp
Schuylkill Center of Environmental Education (8480 Hagy’s Mill Rd.)
Hike, explore, and discover nature at this adventurous summer camp. Each week, kids will participate in numerous earthy activities, including rowing, animal exploration, camping, and more. The first week of camp starts Monday, June 15 and is available for ages 3-15.

Phillies Baseball Academy

Hit one out of the park with the Philadelphia Phillies. The camp schedule is the total package when it comes to campers interested in hard ball. Kids will increase their playing abilities through pitching, sliding, hitting, base running, fielding, catching, and more. Not only will they get a memorable experience, they also get to take home an official Phillies Baseball Academy Uniform! The first week of camp starts Monday, June 15 and is available for ages 6-14.

Philadelphia Eagles Youth Football Camp

If your little football star is looking to improve his pigskin skills, this non-contact camp is a great choice. With registration, kids will get to meet Philadelphia Eagles players, compete in team contests, get advice from professional coaches, and tons more. The first week of camp is Monday, June 22 and is available for ages 6-14.

Wildlife Warriors
Philadelphia Zoo (3400 W. Girard Ave.)
The Philly Zoo hosts weekly summer camps revolving around a specific theme. Children ages 4-13 can take part in fun-filled weeks such as Summer Snowfari, Gorilla Heroes, Orangutan Rangers, and Gibbon Guardians. The first week of camp starts on Monday, June 22 and is available for ages 4-13.

The Philadelphia Dance Academy Summer Program
The Creative Arts Building (219 Cuthbert St., 2nd Floor)
Get those legs moving with the Philadelphia Dance Academy as it hosts various levels of dance programs. Campers can either choose half- or full-day programs that will have them discover new styles, forms, and choreographed dance moves each day. First week of camp starts on Monday, June 29 and is available for ages 2.5 and up.

PAFA Summer Camp
Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (118-128 N. Broad St.)
For young artists: This hands-on camp features a different theme each week. Some activities children will be able to dig into are: character creations, electricity workshops, animations, and sculpture making. First week of camp starts on Monday, June 29, and is available for ages 5-15.

Philadelphia Flyers Ice Hockey School
(601 Laurel Oak Rd.) Voorhees, N.J.
Score a goal with current and alumni Flyers players during this instructional ice hockey camp. Children will learn all about the fundamentals of hockey, from offensive and defensive training to teamwork and conditioning lessons. Your kid will walk away from camp with an impressive knowledge gain about the sport. First week of camp starts Monday, Aug. 17, and is available for ages 7-17.
