Summer fun for the last week in June!

Thursday, June 27: Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin at Milkboy Philly

Indie popsters Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin boast a silly name, and a trove of catchy tunes, and this Thursday will stop by Milkboy Philly for an evening of summer vibes. Formed more than a decade back when a group of high-school friends started tinkering in bedrooms and dorm rooms in Springfield, MO, SSLYBY burst into the national consciousness in 2005, when their debut record Broom won the hearts of bloggers and DIY enthusiasts across the web. Since then, they've maintained a strong indie following, and this fall, will release their fifth LP, Fly By Wire, on Polyvinyl. We <3 SSLYBY for their breezy, feel-good melodies, and ability to perfectly capture emotion in a 3-minute pop song. Friday, June 28: Chronicles of Sound at Johnny Brenda's

There's no doubt that Chronicles of Sound are one of the most creative and unique bands in Philly, and this Friday, they'll share their strange genius with us all as they release their new record, Revolutions Part 1: Dayside.  A comic-book band who combine their love of different media into one multi-faceted vision, Revolutions includes both a full-length record, and a 75-page graphic novel, detailing the struggle of its heroes in an epic battle of fate versus free will. Both the record and the novel will be distributed FOR FREE to show attendees. Live, the band dons costumes and employs projections to bring the narrative to life…their live show also features classic TV and video game covers (think: Megaman, Game of Thrones, Sonic the Hedgehog), and a string quartet. Friday, June 28: DRGN King at PhilaMoCA

Philly's DRGN King craft big, exuberant rockers imbued with psychedelic flourishes and a whole lot of heart, and this Friday will stop by PhilaMOCA for their first hometown show following a two-week tour. Comprised of core duo Dominic Angellela (vocals/guitar/songwriting/hair) and Brent "Ritz" Reynolds (production/keyboards/beats/vibes), plus a slew of collaborators and friends, the band has been riling crowds since 2010, and will continue the onslaught this Friday, playing tunes from their new LP, Paragraph Nights. Plus arrive early for openers Bird Names and Busses, whose differing takes on psychedelia will make for one trippy experience.

Saturday, June 29: Blake Schwarzenbach's 2013 Mobile Disco Decathlon at The Barbary

Honestly, we're not quite sure what to expect from this event, which is supposedly modeled on the Ancient Greek concept of the decathlon, and which is described by Schwarzenbach as Blake and friends "playing records, singing songs, spittin', mixing, and plain old storytelling." The spittin', admittedly, has us a bit nervous (although Urban Dictionary defines "spittin'" as slang for rapping, so perhaps we're safe), although mostly we're psyched to see our fave ole skool emo head let loose and do his thing. Since the late '80s, Schwarzenbach has regaled punks and geeks across America with a variety of projects, fronting Jawbreaker (whose "Save Your Generation" is still an untouchable anthem), Jets to Brazil (the soundtrack to many a teenage car ride) and most recently, forgetters—and composing tunes for Rise Against, The Ataris, Screeching Weasel, and more. His raspy vocals and intimate, moody lyrics have long earned him a place in our hearts, and there are few dudes we'd rather go the distance with. Get psyched!
