Major Lazer announces new album

While Major Lazer has undergone somewhat of a transformation, that doesn't mean Diplo and his constituents aren't still busy crafting new material. Major Lazer has announced a new album, "Free The Universe", expected to drop this fall.

Rumors have swirled over the last few months that there was something going on with everyone's favorite dancehall sensation Major Lazer, with most of them centering around Switch's reportded depature from the duo.  While Switch has contributed on some productions recently, it seems as though Diplo has taken the reigns on this project and has become the "sole executive producer" for the project, according to a press release about the upcoming album.

While this may come as a surprise to some, it just means that Major Lazer and new album Free The Universe are going to have some very welcome guests.  It is rumored that joining Diplo on this new project will be Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman, Tyga, Flux Pavilion, Bruno Mars, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy, Dev, Wynter Gordon, Jillionaire, and even more to be announced later.  If that star studded lineup doesn't get you excited for the fall release, you need to check your pulse.  There is clearly going to be such a unique and diverse sound on this album, so it goes without saying that this album is going to be highly anticipated.

With the Philly Mad Decent Block Party mere days away, we hope this announcement gets you in the mood for this weekend!

Free The Universe is scheduled for a Nov. 6 release, right after Major Lazer returns from an end of summer/fall tour.  Check out the schedule HERE!
