‘Let them eat Tastykake’ at London Grill’s Bastille Day celebration

On July 14, 1789, French commoners stormed the Bastille in Paris, striking back against France’s nobility and kicking the country’s revolution into high gear.

And on Saturday, July 16, London Grill will celebrate that victory — complete with Tastykakes.

That day marks the restaurant's 22nd annual Bastille Day block party. London Grill t will open at 10 a.m. for brunch and lunch prior to joining in the "Storming of the Bastille" at Eastern State Penitentiary that evening.

At 5:30 p.m., owner Terry McNally will do her best Marie Antoinette — as is tradition — while tossing treats to the crowd and shouting "Let them eat Tastykake!" from the Walls of Eastern State. She will be joined by The Bearded Ladies' John Jarboe as Edith Piaf, a popular French cabaret singer.

Please note: Unlike in past years, organizers this year say that there will be no squirt guns or gun references out of respect for victims of the recent mass shooting in Orlando.

The Bastille storming is free to attend. However, those who wish to want a proper view of the revolution can reserve VIP seating at Eastern State for a $40 donation, which will include complimentary Kronenbourg 1664 beer, and a French revolution-themed gift bag.

Following her Tastykake distribution, McNally will be "beheaded" for the crowd. An outdoor performance from The West Philadelphia Orchestra follows, along with street food and beverages.

In addition, London Grill will offer a French-themed dinner consisting of duck confit, steak frites, pate, and more.

However much you end up storming and revolting (or eating and imbibing), remember: Historical dress is very much encouraged. So, please, remember to bring your wig.
