2009 was definitely the year of Kurt Vile. In 12 short months, the singer (dubbed “freak folk’s rising star,” or sometimes “bedroom Tom Petty”) went from playing opening spots on weeknights to small crowds, to opening for Sonic Youth, signing with Matador, and now—in 2010—headlining a sold-out Friday night show at Johnny Brenda’s. January 8th, 2010.
