Honor Women’s History Month through art, talks & parties

Ladies, March is all about you. Women’s History Month is chock full of events showcasing the raddest women around (that would be all of you!).

Students from Moore College of Art and Design — the country's only women's visual arts college — will exhibit work at the Mt. Airy Art Garage (11 W. Mt. Airy Ave.) that explores gender identity. "The Gender Weave Project" opens with a reception on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. and runs until Sunday, March 29. Exhibiting artists and other guests will speak at an International Women's Day panel on Sunday, March 8 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The National Constitution Center (525 Arch St.) tips their hats to women in history with a new interactive program "Decoding the Lyrics: Bad Romance – Women's Suffrage," using pop songs to lead visitors through that chapter in herstory, playing at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. from Sunday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 31. Other activities include a Women's History self-guided tour and giant women's history game board.

Every Sunday during March at the Betsy Ross House (239 Arch St.), "meet" prolific Colonial Philadelphia women like Mary Crathorne (Sunday, March 1, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), chocolate entrepreneur (yes, there will be chocolate tastings) and Sarah Melton (Sunday, March 15, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.), high-end dressmaker.

Leave the guys at home. Ladies can shop, sip and style all to the backdrop of the Philadelphia Flower Show on Thursday, March 5 for Girls Night Out. From 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., get health and beauty tips, shop and see the Flower Show at the Pennsylvania Convention Center (1101 Arch St.).

Gals only! Women will create Rodin-inspired sculptures at the Michener Museum (138 Pine St., Doylestown) for a French-themed ladies night out from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 6 with treats, good company and artistic instruction for all ages and skill levels.

From Tuesday, March 10 through Monday, March 30, New Century Trust (1307 Locust St.) hosts talks and panels dedicated to shedding light on local women's clubs (Tuesday, March 10, 3:30 p.m.), feminism in Philadelphia (Thursday, March 19, 5:30 p.m.), a play on the ratification of the 19th Amendment (Monday, March 23 at 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.) and more.

Top-notch women who're killing it professionally will speak at Peirce College (1420 Pine St.) to share nuggets of knowlege on how to get ahead at work on Thursday, March 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Franklin Institute (222 N. 20th St.) celebrates women in science with a two day showcase on Friday, March 13 and Saturday, March 14. Starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, a panel of women scientists dedicated to medicine, aerospace defense and more, will speak in a discussion moderated by WHYY Senior Health Reporter Taunya English. The following day, those same scientists, along with a few others, will be scattered throughout the museum, showing visitors aspects of their work from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Middle school-aged girls itching to get their feet wet in the tech world can come to a three-hour workshop at Bucks County Community College's Newtown Campus (275 Swamp Rd., Newtown) to learn the coding of games on Saturday, March 14. Come back two weeks later on Saturday, March 28 for a session on robotics. Both classes begin at 1 p.m. and are lead by TechGirlz, a nonprofit aiming to get more women in technology positions.

Some important females are buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery's (3822 Ridge Ave.) North section. You've got Ben Franklin's great-granddaughter, a Revolutionary War heroine, among others, laid to rest on the grounds. Walk to each of their burial sites and learn their stories on Saturday, March 21 for the Classy Broads and Daring Dames walking tour at 1 p.m.
