'Give & Get' auctions off geeks for a great cause

Philly Give & Get is a new charity “date” auction that combines professional networking with community engagement.

How did this event come to light? "Back in January, I needed to learn more about SEO, so I posted a message on the Indy Hall Basecamp along the lines of, 'Will trade fancy beers for SEO advice!'" said founder Lansie Sylvia. "Several days later, I was sharing a round of Yards with three SEO experts, and I found out the real answers to my questions...not the vague suggestions some consultants will spout at you, but actual real-world advice from real-world experts." Being a lover of all things non-profit, she started to think of ways to bring together her community for a good cause. Philly Give & get was born as an event to benefit everyone–winning bidders egt to learn a new skill while the money made from the auctioneers goes back to charity.

The inaugural auction will be held during Philly Tech Week 2013 at National Mechanics (22 S 3rd St) on Thursday, April 25th from 7pm-10pm. During a live auction, event attendees will bid on specialized “Auction Lot” prize packages that combine three hours with a Philly-based professional expert and a one-of-a-kind activity.

Auction Lots available at the April 25th event include bowling and beers at North Bowl with Indy Hall co-founder Alex Hillman, behind-the-scenes BalletX rehearsal with online branding expert Alexandra Golazewsa, spending a night at the Philadelphia Theatre Company followed by drinks at Vintage Wine Bar with sustainability guru Becky Collins and much much more.

All proceeds from Philly Give & Get auctions will be donated back into the local nonprofit community. The first charity recipient is the Philadelphia Center for Arts and Technology, which offers children, youth and adults the opportunity to develop the academic, work, and life skills they need to thrive in the 21st century.

Two prizes will be awarded during the auction. The Most Valuable Philadelphia Award (MVP) will go to the Expert who attracts the highest bid of the evening. The MVP will win a hand-drawn portrait, featuring him/her astride the mythical creature of his/her choice, created by popular Philadelphia-based artist, Mike Jackson. The event attendee who bids the most on an Auction Lot will win the MCP Award for being the Most Charitable Philadelphian and will win a Friends of the Philadelphia Zoo Supporter Membership, valued at $500.
