Doctor Who? Whovians might not know his real name, but they are devoted to the “Doctor” made famous by the BBC television show Doctor Who and will be out in droves to see alums Matt Smith and Karen Gillan at this year’s Philadelphia Wizard World Comic Convention at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Thursday, June 19 to Sunday, June 22. This comic convention has become a mecca to lovers of comics, pop culture, science fiction, anime, video games and all things geek. Will you come out and wear your geek proud this weekend? If you see my husband, please tell him I still expect him home for dinner.

Considered Wizard World’s second-largest and second-longest running show, Philadelphia’s show has a full line-up of celebrity guests, fun panels and costume contests planned for this weekend. Daniel Cudmore known for his work as Piotr Rasputin in X-2 and Volturi Felix in the Twilight Saga as well as David Boreanaz who plays Special Agent Seeley Booth on the television show Bones will be in attendance. Comic lovers will also get to meet comic creators Greg Capullo (Batman, Spawn), Eisner Award Hall of Famers Marv Wolfman (DCU Online, Crisis on Infinite Earths) and Neal Adams (Batman, X-Men) and Claudo Aboy (Heavy Metal, Marilyn). Collectors will also love the many vendors selling comic books, movies, posters, original art and novels. Here is this year’s floor plan.

Make sure you get there early enough because the first 4,000 Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con VIP attendees will get an exclusive variant cover of Marvel’s “Amazing Spider-Man #1.2,” drawn by J.G. Jones.

During the four day convention, you will also have a lot of panels and special programming to choose from.  For the full listing, visit the convention’s website, but here are a few of them.

On Thursday, June 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in Room 109, you can learn how to use crowdfunding to launch your comic book series or game at “Crowdfunding Creativity: From Novel to Comic Game and World.”  Gregory A. Wilson (writer of Icarus) and game designer Kris Siuda will be members of the panel.

Friday, June 20’s schedule will include “No Budget Filmmaking,” a panel with Jus Riddick (Hero Story, Only in L.A.) which will show you how to make a film without a budget.  This session will take place between 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. in Room 111. Also on Friday, cosplayers and fashion lovers alike can enjoy Models and Mayhem’s “Cosmic Cosplay Fashion Show” lead by model Emvi Bardot. The models will strut their stuff from 3:00 p.m. to 3:35 p.m. in Room 107.

If you are looking for love at Comic Con, then don’t miss “Love in the Air @ Philadelphia Comic Con – Speed Dating Style” on Saturday, June 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Room 112. To participate in Sci-Fi Speed Dating, you have to be single and 18 and over.

You might as well spend the whole weekend at the comic con and let the kids have a chance to dress up as their favorite character too. I know, twist your arm, right? The Wizard World Kids’ Costume Contest will take place in Room 108 on Sunday, June 22 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
