Gay To Do: The Submission, Indigo Girls & more

Your top gay calendar picks for this week.

The Submission

The Submission opens Friday, April 10 at the Walnut Street Theatre Studio 5 (825 Walnut Street). The play tells the story of a young gay Caucasian playwright who pens a play under a pseudonym about growing up poor and African-American. When a major theater festival accepts the work for production, he hires an African-American actress to act as the playwright. What ensues is a cautionary tale of sexuality, race and prejudice. Not to be missed.

The Submission runs through April 25. The show will run Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:00pm, with two special reduced-price performances on Sunday April 12 and 19 at 2:00pm. For tickets.

Indigo Girls with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra

Get out the map this weekend. On Sunday, April 12, the Indigo Girls will perform live with the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center (300 S. Broad St.). As part of the Kimmel's commitment to partner world-class artists with local performing arts organizations, Amy Ray and Emily Saliers will offer "a unique presentation of their music with the support of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra".
