Christmas is almost here. The holidays can be filled with frantic family get togethers, stressful shopping sprees and hair pulling decorating binges. Here are the seven best distractions from the craziness, from classy cabarets to raunchy dance parties to get you in the holiday and of course, gay yuletide spirit.

Holidays on Ice

Holidays on Ice, a hilarious collection of holiday short stories by David Sedaris, will be performed this weekend at The Society Hill Playhouse (507 S. 8th St.). Directed by Stan Heleva and featuring actors Michelle Pauls and Peter Zielinski, the night promises to be full of Sedaris's politically incorrect wit and absurd humor.

Performances are Dec. 19th and 20th at 8:00 pm and Dec. 21st at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 but that includes a holiday beverage. For tickets, call the box office at 215-923-0210.

Jingle Belles

The Jingle Belles are back this year at Tabu Sports Bar and Lounge (200 S. 12th St.) with an all new evening of holiday cheer. All the holiday classics you know and love, mixed with new and original arrangements, will be performed by this hilarious group of talented performers who are sure to rock around the Christmas tree. Producer Anne Marie Scalies told us, "I am personally excited about Jingle Belles this year because we had no idea a year ago that one little show could spark our interest in developing Nightcap Cabaret, a philanthropic company through entertainment." Nightcap Cabaret's mission is to contribute to the Philadelphia culture with professional quality, fast-paced, and high energy musical events.

Performances are Friday, Dec. 19th at 8:00 pm and 10:00 pm and Saturday, Dec. 20th at 8:00 pm.  $10 at the door. One beverage included with ticket. $5 student rate with no beverage included.

NSFW: Hung

Popular dance party NSFW is back at Medusa Lounge (27 S. 21st St.) Friday, Dec. 19th for a holiday edition that will bare packages galore whether you were naughty or nice. Feel free to come dressed in your holiday best, whether it's a tacky sweater or a festive jockstrap. DJ Trprkpr and DJ Sharyn Stone spin.

Doors at 10:00pm. No cover.

Holiday Stimulus

For the first time ever, the producers behind Stimulus are moving it to a Saturday.  So, this Saturday, Dec. 20th, Sexy Santas and hot snow bunnies are welcomed to get down and dirty on the Voyeur (1221 St. James) dance floor.

$10 cover. Doors at 10:00 pm.

Holiday Spectacular Spectacular

Philadelphia's new cabaret and sing-a-long, Light the Lights, is closing out their inaugural year with another fabulous evening of song at L'Etage (624 S. 6th St.). This all-new show will ring in the holiday season Monday, Dec. 22nd with new takes on classics, Broadway favorites and more than a few surprises. My fingers are crossed for some Mariah. Hosted by piano man Donald Harrison and funny boy R. Eric Thomas.

Doors at 7:30 pm. Show at 8:00 pm. $5 cover.

A Very Sherry Christmas: An Evening with Sherry Vine

Drag diva Sherry Vine is coming to Tabu Lounge and Sports Bar (200 S. 12th St.) on Friday, Dec. 26th delivering presents galore. With additional performances by Brittany Lynn, Pissi Myles, Freddie Meggury and reigning Miss'D America queen Honey Davenport, the night promises to be a holly jolly post-Christmas occasion.

8th Annual Kwanzaa Celebration

On Saturday, Dec. 27th, a collaborative of LGBT groups will come together at the William Way Center (1315 Spruce St.) to celebrate the cultural experience of the African American principles related to Kwanzaa. During the celebration, members of these Philadelphia area based organizations will highlight the Nguzo Saba or 7 principles of Kwanzaa. Some of these groups are Philly Black Pride, Black Gay Men's Leadership Council, and The Attic Youth Center. This is a cultural experience not to be missed this holiday season. Light appetizers provided by Butter's Soul Food.
