FringeArts fall season brings a First Friday residency, an 'anti-play' and more

First there was the Fringe Festival along with the opening of La Peg, then the sold-out “Rosas Danst Rosas” weekend run earlier this month, and now FringeArts (140 N. Columbus Blvd.) is keeping the culture alive with more performances and excitement this fall.

First there was the Fringe Festival along with the opening of La Peg, then the sold-out "Rosas Danst Rosas" weekend run earlier this month, and now FringeArts (140 N. Columbus Blvd.) is keeping the culture alive with more performances and excitement this fall. Come for the shows, stay for a meal (or vice-versa), leave after a one-of-a-kind experience.

There's nothing quite like '70s glam rock on Halloween, is there? The 25-musician deep Candy Volcano will put their spin on tunes from David Bowie, Lou Reed and Mott the Hoople on Friday, Oct. 31 at 10 p.m. (doors are at 9:30 p.m.). Come in costume — this is a Glamtasm Masquerade, after all.

FringeArts' monthly Scratch Night, designed to give the community a taste of what's new and next in the Philadelphia performance sphere, continues for the duration of 2014 with two free shows on Monday, Nov. 3 and Monday, Dec. 1. The 7 p.m. event also includes beer, light fare and a chance to ask the artists your burning questions.

Following their late-night performance at La Peg during this year's Fringe Festival, funky R&B group Red 40 and the Last Groovement return at 11 p.m. for a First Friday residency on Friday, Nov. 7 and Friday, Dec. 1. Cozy up by the new fire pits at La Peg's outdoor beer garden, too!

"The Sincerity Project," an "anti-play" taking the idea of a heart-to-heart among Millennials and expanding it into a first-person narrative involving physical theatre, music and dance. Directed by Alex Torra, the show will take on 13 incarnations — this being the first — with performances taking place every two years for the next 24, using the same seven actors and their real-life memories. "The Sincerity Project" is for mature audiences and plays from Thursday, Dec. 4 through Saturday, Dec. 6 and Wednesday, Dec. 10 through Saturday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m.
