Five things to do today – meadow painting, baby waddle contest, book club

I’ve got a good feeling about this one.

I've got a good feeling about this one.

For a look in the past: History is explored through children's eyes and literature at the Rosenbach Museum and Library's "Bescribbled, Nibbled, and Dog-Eared" exhibit, focusing on early American children's books. The Rittenhouse museum is open from noon until 5 p.m. today.

For plein air painting: Members from the Delaware Valley Art League will be painting in Longwood Gardens' new Meadow Garden from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The meadow, which spans 86 acres, will host the artists as they create works as visitors stroll through. All art created will be on display and up for sale on August 2 and 3 at the Kennett Square garden.

For competitive babies: Waddle, baby, waddle. Little tots will strut or crawl to the finish line during Wildwood, N.J.'s Baby Waddle Contest. Babies 24 months and younger will race on two legs while kiddies under 15 months will crawl, starting at 10 a.m. outside the Wildwoods Convention Center. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

For girl power: Works by international and multicultural female writers will be observed tonight at Mount Airy's Big Blue Marble Bookstore during their Women of the World Book Club, meeting at 7 p.m.

For more girl power: Glasgow, UK duo Honeyblood have been compared to major chick-fronted acts like Best Coast and Haim. They bring their pop-rock sound to Center City's Milkboy at 8 p.m. for a 21-and-older show.
