Five things to do today – Mummers on the boardwalk, music festival, story slam

Turn off your alarm clock. It’s time to do things.

Turn off your alarm clock. It's time to do things.

For an uproar: Remember the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival that came into town a few weeks ago? Say hello to its sister event, the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, also sponsored by the energy drink, held at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, N.J. today. The lineup of metal and hardcore bands include Godsmack, Seether, Skillet, Buckcherry, Pop Evil and Escape the Fate, to name a few. Doors open at 2 p.m.

For a tail-wagging time: Today's National Dog Day and children can read with therapy dogs (and cats and even rabbits) for an hour at the Parkesburg Library in Parkesburg, Pa, starting at 5:30 p.m.

For a New Year's tradition: The Mummers strut their stuff along the Ocean City Boardwalk from 6th through 14th streets for their final summer parade, starting at 7 p.m.

For an island food getaway: Cuisine and beer from five Caribbean islands will be served over as many courses at Maple Shade, N.J.'s Iron Hill Brewery during their Caribbean Beer Dinner. Make your reservations and get there by 7 p.m.

For a chemistry lesson: In honor of the first ringing school bells of the season, First Person Arts brings a chemistry-themed story slam to L'Etage. Share your molecular, five minute story for a chance to win $100 — or just hang out to hear a few tales. Doors are at 7:30 p.m. in Bella Vista, an hour prior to the show's start.
