Dogs had the spotlight last weekend, now it's cats' turn

On Saturday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 23 the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (100 Station Ave.) in Oaks, Pennsylvania will host the 2014 Cat Fanciers' Association World Championship Cat Show that features over 1,000 cats competing for numerous prizes and worldwide honors. Show hours are from 8:30 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Here is the list of paw-some happenings going on throughout the weekend.

Watch cats show off their speed and skills during an agility contest featuring a course made up of tunnels, stairs, hoops and other selected obstacles on site. The cat that successfully makes it through the entire course with the best record time is crowned champion.

If you don't know much about your cat's background, the Education Ring located in the convention center will provide guests with exclusive information about various felines' personal traits, physical appearance, breed history, and training tips to make your cat the ideal pet you always wanted.

Besides the competing cats, get up close and personal to the Pet Me cats at the show. Pet Me cats of each breed will let visitors touch them, and learn more about their characteristics.

Cat fur everywhere — yuk! Grooming demonstrations will help pet owners utilize nail clippings, and combing tactics to help their longhair pet from getting their fur all bunched up.

This event is purr-fect for children. During the cat show, kids can get their face painted by an on-site artist, learn educational facts about different breeds, and even get their picture with Garfield — the CFA's spokes cat.

If your cat clawed all its toys to shreds, don't fret; an array of vendors will be onsite making the convention the one-stop shop for your cat, and a perfect place to get some Christmas shopping done, too. Guests can plan out their shopping spree with the convention's vendor map found online.

Admission to the show is at the door and is $11 for adults, $7 for seniors and children ages 4-12, and free for kids 3 and under. Kittens and retired show cats will be available for purchase for those who want to add a new friend to their home.
