Family fall festival picks around Philadelphia

Throughout October, people can spend their weekends at an array of haunted attractions, and food and beer festivals.

Throughout October, people can spend their weekends at an array of haunted attractions, and food and beer festivals. Although these aren't your family-friendly events, there's plenty offered in and around Philadelphia for those with little ones.

Here's our kid-friendly event picks in fall.

Sesame Street Spooktacular
(100 Sesame Road) Langhorne
Saturdays
and Sundays through Sunday, Nov. 1
Big Bird, Count, and the rest of the gang get into the seasonal spirit each weekend in October with some Halloween-themed activities. Hours of operation: Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hershey Park in the Dark
(100 W. Hersheypark Dr.) Hershey
Friday, Oct. 16 through Sunday Oct. 18; Friday, Oct. 23 through Sunday, Oct. 25; Friday, Oct. 30 through Sunday, Nov. 1
Kids and parents alike will get their thrills on here. From spooky amusement rides to free candy for trick-or-treaters, this Pennsylvania park is a great choice for Halloween. Hours of operation: Friday, 5 to 10 p.m.; Saturday noon to 10 p.m.; Sunday noon to 9 p.m.

Pumpkin Land at Linvilla Orchards

Open through Sunday, Nov. 8
For a gourd time: The farm gets into the seasonal spirit with pumpkin picking, a corn maze, hayrides, and a jack-o-lantern exhibit. If you're in need of new household items, crafts will be available for purchase. Hours of operation: Sunday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Scarecrow Walk at Peddler's Village
(Route 202 & Route 263) Lahaska
Open through Sunday, Nov. 1
The historic village gets stuffed with autumn-themed events — literally. Throughout October, take a stroll through the neighborhood and look at decked-out scarecrows and vote for your favorite hay figure.

Fall Harvest Weekends at Snipes Farm
(890 W. Bridge St.) Morrisville
Open through early November
This Bucks County farms Fall Harvest Weekend includes pumpkin picking, non-haunted hayrides, a corn maze, and autumn-themed arts and crafts. If you're at the farm at dusk, weekend campfires are held every night! Hours of operation: Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Scarecrow Walk at Morris Arboretum
(100 E Northwestern Ave.)
Open until Sunday, Oct. 25
Wander along the park's Oak Allee and check out some wonderful scarecrow creations from local artists. From the looks of last year's entrants, expect recreations of cartoons characters, famous musicians, and even Star Wars characters like Chewbacca. Hours of operation: Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

4th Annual UNI Harvest Festival at Bartram's Garden
(5400 Lindbergh Blvd.)
Sunday, Oct. 18
Bartram's Garden invites families to celebrate the four-year anniversary of the Community Farm and Food Resource Center with seasonal events like pumpkin carving, face painting, cider pressing, farm tours, and more. The event is from 1 to 4 p.m.
